About us
Cyprus research at the Institute of Classics at University of Graz started 1997 with Prof. Hans-Thuri Lorenz and his former student Gabriele Koiner.
Since these days Gabriele Koiner started working on Cyprus topics, especially on marble sculptures and Cyprus studies became part of teaching topics in Graz. The first workshops and conferences were hosted in Graz in 2010, 2016 and 2017 organized by Gabriele Koiner. In the following years other scholars joined the research team in different research areas like Maria Christidis in attic pottery and Nicole Reitinger in terrakotta figurines. Later Sabine Sturmann started researching on cypriot limestone and marble reliefs and in 2020 Laerke Recht joined the team and brings early eastern mediterraean studies, with main focus on bronzeage Cyprus to Graz.
In 2019 the first survey in Amargeti/ Pafos district in Cyprus started, followed by a museum campaign 2020. After dealing the pandemic year 2020, the survey team conducted a second survey campaign in Amargeti in 2021.
2022 will be an exciting year with more campaigns in Cyprus and of course a great conference in December 2022 in Graz with new interesting papers on Cyprus researching, which we are looking forward to.
